Olympics...among other things

I know I'm not alone in this.

I don't care anything about watching the Olympics.

Yes, I'm sure that just seems shocking to some of y'all, but it's true.

I've never had much, if any, interest in watching them over the years. That hasn't changed. And, this year they're being held in China. Joy. I get tired of looking at labels and packaging from stores and seeing that everything, indeed, seems to be made in China. Don't we make anything in America any more? Well, the answer is yes, thankfully, there are still some things made in America. Here's one place to see some American made items for yourself:

Back to the Olympics for a moment. You'd have to avoid all news feeds and broadcasts for a few weeks to avoid hearing about them and indeed I have and am disgusted with the behavior of Chinese officials. If you didn't hear about the opening ceremonies flub, read about it here - what a shame that Chinese officials were more concerned about putting forth a "perfect image" instead of honoring the competetion that they ran for a singer at the opening ceremonies.

I'll be glad when they're over.

I too am not watching much Olympics. The China thing I think. Elbert (hubby) does enjoy watching some of the participation so I turn it on for him. He has no idea of the political aspect, it's just kids diving into a swimming pool, or playing volleyball. So, it's entertainment for him and any entertainment that he enjoys I go with it. Keeps him quiet for awhile and I can do my own thing. Like enjoy your blogs. Your children are precious. I just don't know how you do it... with God's guidance I am sure.

I am not an athletic person so my interest in the Olympics has been minimal over the years. I do think it's important to support young people who have worked so hard, and I am always happy when one of ours has won gold, silver or bronze. But, I have a problem with China this year....first, all that lead paint! Seems like they were infecting our children's toys with it on purpose! Then, I find out that those "green" lightbulbs they keep pushing on us that are so toxic when broken, are made in China. More conspiracy!? To top it all off, the news that thousands of people were displaced out of their homes in China so they could build Olympic structures (without any monetary compensation) I found really abhorrent! One vision of a poor elderly person sitting, crying in a wheelchair on the sidewalk stays with me! I felt like we should just be boycotting the Olympics over that! Instead, we are pumping money into their government by being there...and where are those poor people? Living in a gutter? It makes me sick. I didn't even watch the opening ceremonies, which I heard were amazing. I just didn't want5 any part of it. Yet, our kids, who worked their patooties off the last four years deserve their chance. Something needs to be done about all the stuff we have being made in China, though. It needs to stop. Go American!!!!
