Well, I got a little work done on the quilt today - I laid out the blocks that are complete so far and have been thinking about what more I'd like to do with it before I start putting it all together.
In the picture, you'll see the completed 4 patch blocks lined up in the placement I believe I'll be going with - anything can happen though :) I do plan to make 8 more of each the pink/floral and maroon/floral to add two more rows at the bottom. Then, it will measure 36" x 36" (unsewn).
Now, I made a few blocks that are maroon/pink 4 patches and was thinking about using them as a border, but I'm not sure yet.
In this picture, you can see where I laid them alongside one corner to see how it would look. I'm not 100% convinced to do this yet and haven't made any more of those blocks at this point.
A few other options would be to add a border all the way around the quilt - maybe with the floral, then use the pink/maroon 4 patches, then another "solid" border around that and the binding - the possibilities are endless....or maybe not use the pink/maroon blocks at all....argh! What to do, what to do?!
Any input is welcome :)

Hi Catherine! I'm a quilter! This is beautiful! How wonderful that you've been able to do this WHILE pregnant, WITH children in tow, WHILE homeschooling.... I always wanted to during my pregnancies but I always felt to yucky!
Anyway, any of your border options are great! It's all a matter of taste! One thing that adds pizzazz to a quilt is to use a different scale. I would get a larger scale floral (in the same color family) and let that become be border. I would just lay it against the quilt to audition it and scrunch it up in different widths to see how wide I'd want to make it! Whatever you decide, it will be lovely!

Catherine, your quilt is looking great! I love the colors you have chosen. I have been self taught with quilting, so I'm not sure if I'm qualified to give any advise. I didn't know anyone local that quilted. By trial and error and looking at magazines and HGTV's quilting section I have learned a lot. There is also a website called allpeoplequilt.com that has how to help on it as well. My first quilt had the same pattern! But I wasn't smart enough to start off with a four patch block like you have! I lined up individual squares on the floor across my room until I like the design. Then I had to keep putting it back in place, fighting with my puppy to stay off of them. I sewed them into long strips, which I then sewed together.Arg, but I learned! :) I think your quilt is going to turn out great which ever way you decide to frame it with a border. That is part of what makes quilting so fun, you never run out of options and they can look so different with just a little change of color or arangement.

Catherine your quilt looks great! I love the colors that you have chosen. I have had to teach my self because I didn't have anyone to show me how. I have learned a lot from HGTV.com's quilting section and from allpeoplequilt.com . I also pick up a magazine when I can for ideas. Part of the fun of quilting is that I never run out out of ideas to try and just one little change makes it look so different. Sometimes a different arrangment or color makes it look completely different and then I want to try them all.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm glad you liked the unit celebration! We have a lot of fun with them. If we had gotten to do TOG when my children were a lot younger, our unit celebrations would look a lot different. My kids choose their character and we build the unit celebration around their interests and the projects they are doing for the unit. We plan our projects around what they want to accomplish for the unit celebration. But it would be much simpler if they were younger. ;)

Yeah - I got nothin' for ya. Zero experience in quilting. I think what you've done looks fantastic and whatever you decide is going to look equally good!!!
:-)
And I feel you on the election. ::exhale:: But, you know what - it's only 2 years until the next round of House members can be replaced. That's all I'm saying.
